Facebook

We use pixel tracking to ensure that our paid Facebook and Instagram advertising campaigns for brand awareness and fundraising are as effective as possible, and that we are reaching the most relevant audiences. These pixels collect data that helps us track visitors or conversions from our ads, optimize our ad delivery, build targeted audience lists for the future, and better understand how users are interacting with our Website.

More specifically, we use pixels to retarget our audiences and to serve more relevant and interesting ads to those who have already engaged with our content. We use some of this targeting and retargeting data to build custom and lookalike audiences, of people who have similar likes, interests, and demographics to people already interacting with our Website and ads. This data allows MSF UAE to fundraise as effectively as possible, and to potentially expand our donor base.

The data collected by Facebook is aggregated and is not personally identifiable. The data will not be shared with other parties and Facebook will maintain the confidentiality and security of data, including by maintaining technical and physical safeguards that are designed to (a) protect the security and integrity of data while it is within Facebook's systems and (b) guard against the accidental or unauthorised access, use, alteration or disclosure of data within Facebook's systems.

The four categories, from the least to the most intrusive, are:

  1. Strictly necessary. These cookies let you move around the Website and use areas like the donate form and newsletter sign up. They don't gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remember where you've been on the internet. These cookies only last until you close your browser.
  2. Performance. These cookies help us understand how you use our Website and if users have had any problems. They also let us know if you see one of our adverts online or click on our banners. The information they gather is anonymous. We only use the information to improve the way the Website works.
  3. Functionality. These cookies remember any choices you've made on a website. This could be changing the text size, preferences or colour. They can also remember if you've already completed a survey. They cannot track you on other websites.
  4. Targeting. These cookies collect info for third parties and remember what you looked at on a website. They’re used for things including ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ buttons, as well as online advertising. Do you see ads for things you've looked at online appear on random websites? It's because of targeting cookies.

What cookies do we use?

As you visit our Website, MSF UAE will use browser cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you return to our Website and Services. We use them in various ways, for example to log you in, remember your preferences (such as default language), evaluate email effectiveness, allow our paywall and meter to function, and personalize content and other services. Without cookies, our metered paywall would not work, so they are necessary to MSF UAE Website’s basic functionality.

MSF UAE uses all four kinds of cookies. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously when it comes to cookies and we only use them when we feel they are useful and benefit MSF UAE’s work and our Website and social media users.

Key cookies on the MSF UAE Website include:
